- Principal Provisions of the Will
A confusing Will!
All my personal assets to be converted into money.
£300 to be invested to pay an income to my wife for her lifetime. After her death then the capital sum of £300, to be paid to my daughter, Cicely Alderson.
The balance to be invested and the annual income from the capital to be shared equally between my five daughters: Sarah Jane Richardson, Mary Ellen Walker, Dorothy Ann Alderson, Ada Alderson and Cicely Alderson and my wife.
The farming business to be continued and the profits divided between the four last named daughters, plus £100 to each that deserves it(?).
All real estate left to my wife and daughter Cicely Alderson for their lives and after their decease, then to the children of Cicely. If no children living at their decease, then the same to be shared between Hannah Smith, Jane Richardson, Mary Ellen Walker, Dorothy Ann Alderson and Ada Alderson
- Hannah Smith (nee Wilkinson) is his wife's daughter by her previous marriage.
No mention is made in the Will of her other child from her previous marriage, Michael Wilkinson. He is either independent or has died.
Mary Ellen Walker is the illegitimate daughter of Sarah Walker who was a domestic servant. Although John Alderson did not marry Sarah Walker, having got her pregnant, he and his family acknowledged that he was the father of Mary Ellen and contributed to her upbringing and her inheritance.
