    This is the Last Will and Testament of me NEWARK ANDREWS of Farlington in the county of York Esquire made the Twenty Seventh day of July One thousand eight hundred and ninety five.

    I appoint my brother Thomas Andrews of Farlington aforesaid, Farmer to be sole Trustee and Executor of this my Will.

    I give and demise all my freehold property at Newcastle upon Tyne namely two dwellinghouses and premises situate and being numbers 15 and 17 Blagdon Street, Two dwellinghouses and premises situate and being Numbers 4 and 5 Grenville Terrace and three dwellinghouses and premises situate and being Numbers, 23 and 35 Bedford Place and also all other my real estate unto my two brothers, the said Thomas Andrews and Alfred Andrews now in Canada equal shares as tenants in common.

    I give and bequeath unto my said Trustee and Executor free from legacy duty One ordinary share held by me in the South Eastern Railway Company and I direct him to transfer such share to the Prior for the time being of Ampleforth College in the North Riding of the County of York to be held by him and his successors, the Prior of Ampleforth College for the time being who shall pay the annual Income thereof to the Roman Catholic Priest for the time being at Easingwold towards his maintenance and support.

    I give and bequeath all the rest and remainder of my personal estate subject to the payment of my funeral and testamentary expenses my just debts and said legacy duly unto and equally between my said Brothers Thomas Andrews and Alfred Andrews. Provided always that if either of them the said Thomas Andrews and Alfred Andrews shall die in my lifetime having a child or children who shall survive me and being a son or sons shall attain the age of twenty one years or being a daughter or daughters shall attain that age or marry then and in either such case such child or children shall take (and if more than one equally between them) the share to which his her or their parent would have been entitled of and in my real and residuary and personal estate such parent had survived me.

    Lastly I revoke all others-wills at anytime herefore made by me. In witness whereof I have hereunder set my hand the day and year first above written.

    It is agreed that Mr Newark Andrews have let all that Simonside farm (except the wetter side field about 12 acres, now sown with wheat) to Mrs Spraggon and Son from 12th May 1799 for 3 years they paying then for the same £120 p. annum. The Landlord to pay Land Tax and the dean and Chapters Out Rent, the Tenants to pay all other Taxes & asesses that comes against the farm. It is likewise agreed that the Landlord is to find 100 fother of Manure, the Tenant leading the same at his own Expence. The Tenant to find 100 fother also at his expence, yearly and every year during the above term, all which Manure is to be laid and spred upon the fallow ground yearly. All the manure that is spred upon the premises to be laid upon the grass ground as Witness our hands this 12th day of Decem'r 1798.

    Principal Provisions under the Will of Thomas Andrews date 5th April 1850 amended by a Codicil dated 13th October 1857
    Trustees appointed - Reverend John Dowding of Easingwold (Clerk) and Henry Anderson of High Petergate, York (Gentleman).
    Executors appointed - Both of the aforementioned and Isabella Andrews.
    The Codicil of 13th October 1857 varies this to the extent that Henry Anderson is removed from acting as both an Executor & as a Trustee. (In all probability he was a solicitor, had retired and was withdrawing from all such roles.)

    To my natural born son, William Henry Mirley - the sum of £100 outright to be paid within 12 months of my death and a life interest in the income from a trust comprising a Close (field) of 2 acres and 2 roods known as Moor Field, Farlington. Upon his death, to be equally divided between sons, Newark, Thomas & Alfred Andrews.

    All other assets and income in trust for the benefit of Isabella Andrews for her lifetime or until she re-marries.

    Upon her deathor re-marriage:

    The sum of three hundred and fifty pounds owing to me by one John Potts together with the hereditaments hereunto mortgaged to me for securing the repayment thereof. The sum of three hundred pounds owing to me by John Robson together with the hereditaments mortgaged to me for securing the repayment thereof. The sum of one hundred and fifty pounds owing to me by one Jane Jude together with the hereditaments mortgaged to me for securing the repayment thereof. The sum of one hundred pounds owing to me by Mr. Lund of the Quay, Newcastle on Tyne together with the hereditaments mortgaged to me for securing the repayment thereof. All those, my forty shares in the National Loan Society.     Provisions of the Will of Elizabeth Todd of Wolsingham dated 15th May 1838

    I give and devise unto my sons, John Todd and Thomas Todd their Heirs and Assigns all that, my Copyhold Estate, Lands, Tenement and Premises commonly called or known by the name of Redgate Shield in the Townships of Bedburn and Hamsterly, in the said county, together with the Tithes thereof and now in the occupation of Robert Surtees Esquire. To hold the same to the said John Todd and Thomas Todd, their Heirs and Assigns as Tenants in Common and not as Joint Tenants, share and share alike.

    I give and bequeath unto my Executrixes hereinafter named the sum of One Hundred and Fifty Pounds in Trust for my Granddaughter Mary Brown to be paid to her when she shall attain the age of twenty one years. The sum of eight pounds annually in lieu of interest thereof, from the Day of my Death until her said age of twenty one years to be paid and applied by the said John Todd, Thomas Todd, Elizabeth Wooler, Sarah Armstrong, Grace Walton and Isabella Andrews equally, for and towards her education.

    I give and bequeath unto the children of Jane Brown, late of Sunderland in the said County, deceased (except the said Mary Brown) the sum of Five Pounds each.

To hold to them, their Heirs and Assigns in equal shares as Tenants in Common and not as Joint Tenants.

    I give and bequeath unto the said Sarah Armstrong, Elizabeth Wooler, Grace Walton and Isabella Andrews, all my Household Furniture, Plate, Linen and China and all other my Household Effects of what Nature, Kind and Quality so ever, to be equally divided amongst them, share and share alike.

    And all the Rest, Residue and Remainder of my Real and Personal Estate of what Nature Tenure, Kind or Quality so ever(and not hereinbefore otherwise disposed of) I give, devise and bequeath unto my said Daughters, Sarah Armstrong, Elizabeth Wooler Grace Walton and Isabella Andrews, their Heirs, Executors, Administrators and Assigns, share and share alike, as Tenants in Common and not as Joint Tenants.

    And I Will and Direct that the Personal Estate so devised and bequeathed unto the said Sarah Armstrong shall be for her own sole and separate use and shall not be subject in any manner to the Debts or Control of her present or any future husband.

    And I do hereby Nominate, Constitute and appoint the said Sarah Armstrong, Elizabeth Wooler, Grace Walton and Isabella Andrews Executrixes of this my last Will and Testament herby revoking all other Will or Wills by me heretofore made and do declare this only to be my Last Will and Testament.
