- Caroline Armstrong was an accomplished watercolour artist and she was commissioned to paint a miniature painting for Queen Mary's dollshouse. It is in a drawer in the dolls house and there is a letter in the family archive, from Queen Mary, thanking her for her submission.

Artist Caroline Frances Jane (Carr) Armstrong was baptized on 16 October 1845 at Hemsworth, Yorkshire. Daughter of Revd. Charles Edward Armstrong and Mary Ann Clayton. Her father was the Master Chaplain of Hemsworth Hospital, Yorkshire (born Mumbai in 1807). She never married and died on 10 April 1937 age 91, at Greenwich, London.
Admitted to the RA Schools aged 32 on 6 April 1881 to study painting.

She exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1885, 1887, 1892, 1894, 1895, 1897, 1901, 1902, 1903, 1911 and 1918, variously as Caroline, Car or Carr Armstrong.
